HOMECOMING COURT

Homecoming Court

Court members are chosen based on their leadership qualities, spirit, integrity, and achievement through their contributions and involvement at Ohio State. The Court selection process begins with a paper application. Based on application scores and GPA, individual interviews are offered and conducted by OSU faculty, staff, and alumni. The scores from the paper application and interview are combined to determine the 2017 Homecoming Court members.  Court members then volunteer and serve as ambassadors during Welcome Week and Homecoming Week, and after a student body vote, the Homecoming Queen and King are announced at the Homecoming Game on October 7, 2017.

What does it mean to be a Buckeye?

To be a Buckeye means to have instilled within you the most infectious spirit to ever exist. As a Buckeye at Ohio State, I have access to seemingly limitless opportunities to pursue my passions both inside and outside of the classroom. I have an Ohio State family that extends to every corner of the globe. I have a standing appointment every Saturday to gather with 110,000 of my closest friends in the Shoe and cheer on the men in Scarlet and Grey. To be a Buckeye means to be part of a community that is unrivaled in every way.

What does it mean to be a Buckeye?

Being a Buckeye means that you are quite literally nuts. Buckeyes are crazy enough to dream big, believing that we can accomplish greatness, blaze new trails, and inspire others. For a family of half a million people the possibilities are endless. There is no other spirit in the world like Buckeye Pride. We love Ohio and always finding that echoing –IO to our –OH. Being a Buckeye means that you let your passion encourage you every day to work hard and share it with the world. Lastly, we love our fellow Buckeyes, old and new, because we are forever Buckeyes for life.

What does it mean to be a Buckeye?

Being a Buckeye is being part of something far greater than a university. It is joining a life-long community. It is fangirling over a nut and a mutated duck. It is having a single voice in the mightiest, resounding collegiate crowd. It is storming the field after beating TTUN—with joy which death alone can still. It is I-O-ing anyone’s O-H across the globe. It is firming thy friendships into everlasting brotherhoods and sisterhoods. It is immersing oneself past library hours, not just to learn, but one day impact. Being a Buckeye is an unforgettable experience, an inexplainable belonging, and a forever-spirit.

What does it mean to be a Buckeye?

To me, being a buckeye means being able to yell "OH!" and get back an “-IO!" no matter where in the world you are. From riding a subway in NYC during a BuckIServ trip to ordering at a McDonald's in Madrid while studying abroad, I have had the privilege of engaging with and being inspired by my Buckeye community amidst every adventure I have embarked on during my time here. Being welcomed and welcoming others with open arms to the unparalleled global community of Ohio State is what being a Buckeye is all about.

What does it mean to be a Buckeye?

Being a Buckeye means more than simply attending The Ohio State University. It means wearing scarlet and gray with pride, spending your perfect fall and spring days on Oval Beach, referring to Columbus as your second home, and sitting in The Shoe with a full heart as you sing Carmen Ohio with your arms wrapped around your fellow Buckeyes. The word “Buckeye” is ingrained in the culture and traditions that unite two strangers in the airport with a simple exchange of the O-H…I-O and provides a sense of belonging and appreciation for its alma mater.

What does it mean to be a Buckeye?

Being a Buckeye means discovering yourself and being open to new experiences. The best way to experience OSU is to come and let it change you while also bringing out the passions and interests you've always had. Getting to be a Buckeye means getting to try out new sides of yourself - your adventurous self, your curious self, your generous self - and find out how you're going to fit all those selves into the new person you've become. It looks different for everyone, but I've loved seeing the confidence and energy people gain between convocation and commencement.

What does it mean to be a Buckeye?

More than anything, for me, being a Buckeye has always been about pushing yourself to be better. Being a member of this community holds a lot of weight, and there is a certain standard that Buckeyes hold themselves to. We strive to be better, to make the world around us better, and that is part of what makes being a Buckeye so incredible - that drive remains with you for the rest of your life.

What does it mean to be a Buckeye?

Being a Buckeye means that you always have a place to call home.  No matter where you’re from or where you end up, the Ohio State community makes you feel like you belong. It means that you should always expect to hear OH when wearing Ohio State apparel, whether it’s the beach on Long Island or the airport in Madrid. As a Buckeye you hold a sense of pride, along with responsibility to leave Ohio State a little better than you found it, and continue to make a difference in all of your different communities.

What does it mean to be a Buckeye?

Being a Buckeye means endless opportunity – opportunity to call Columbus home while challenging yourself to explore the world. Opportunity to nurture any interest you’ve ever had, and to constantly find others who want to change the world in the same ways you do. It is the opportunity to gain mentors, and to become one to the younger generation. It is the opportunity to embrace sports like a true enthusiast (even if you still don’t fully understand football.) And it is opportunity to surround yourself daily by passionate individuals that unite to create this infectious community in Ohio and the world.

What does it mean to be a Buckeye?

Being a Buckeye is about celebrating every win with a Buckeye Blitz ice cream cone, finding fellow Buckeyes across the globe and connecting with them for meaningful causes. Being a part of a compassionate community with an authentic desire to do good in the world. It means investing in an education broader than books and remembering to change your Buckeyelink password. Being a Buckeye is challenging our peers to expand their mindsets through cultural immersion, discovering the short north, and staying out that extra hour at the “O”.

What does it mean to be a Buckeye?

Being a Buckeye means being a part of an interconnected community of exquisite and unique individuals. The Buckeye community is one that promotes tradition, strives for innovation, and embraces its family. It is the sense of knowing that no matter how far you wander, you have a home. It is about taking care of those around you and making the community and world a better place. Being a Buckeye is the most humbling and honorable privilege. It is not a community and experience that lasts for four years, it's a title for life.

What does it mean to be a Buckeye?

Unparalleled energy and dedication for the things we do and the people we love lie within the heart of every Buckeye. To be a Buckeye means being humbled by students and faculty’s talent and intellectual curiosity. It means building amazing friendships that will last long after we graduate. It means being exposed to limitless opportunities to live out our dreams. To be a Buckeye means loving every moment of the Ohio State experience and surrounding ourselves with equally passionate people in a sea of scarlet and gray.

What does it mean to be a Buckeye?

Being a Buckeye means being a part of something larger than yourself. It's easy to feel when you sit in the student section at a football game or walk the Oval at the involvement fair, but the more subtle feeling you get when you're sitting in the library late at night with your friends or at happy hour after your last exam is really what makes Ohio State feel like home. At a university of over 60,000 students, it's impossible to miss the opportunities to make memories with fellow Buckeyes along the road.

What does it mean to be a Buckeye?

Being a Buckeye means that you are a lifelong member of the Buckeye community. Our community is vast, but we all share a common commitment to improving ourselves, each other, and our University. Through this commitment, we gain not only an excellent education, but also lifelong friendships, valuable experiences, and memories that will sustain us the rest of our lives. Our sense of school spirit, camaraderie, and belonging accompanies us everywhere. Being a Buckeye means traveling across the globe, hearing someone shout “O-H!” and replying “I-O!"

What does it mean to be a Buckeye?

To me, a Buckeye is someone who lives the idea of “paying it forward,” both during and after their time at Ohio State. The phrase, made popular by Ohio State football coach Woody Hayes, urges individuals to show gratitude for what they have received by being willing to sacrifice so that others may succeed. This spirit permeates throughout campus as students, professors, and faculty stand ready to lend a helping hand to other Buckeyes or members of the Columbus community. Even after graduation, true Buckeyes remain committed to assisting their University, in order to show gratitude for the indelible role Ohio State has played in their lives.

What does it mean to be a Buckeye?

The transformative effect that The Ohio State University can have is best exemplified by the fact that despite growing up a Michigan fan (thanks Dad) I have still managed to fall in love with this incredible place. As a member of the Buckeye faithful, I have had the privilege to come across some of the most extraordinary individuals of whom have collectively inspired me to be the most authentic version of myself. When you’re a buckeye, you represent so much more than yourself: you represent unparalleled passion for success and an intangible drive to shape the future of this world.

What does it mean to be a Buckeye?

For me, being a Buckeye instills a life-long connection to a community that I can call my home and family. These past three years, Ohio State has given me some of my closest friendships, fondest memories, and most remarkable opportunities. Being a part of this university has allowed me to showcase my talents and interests with a feeling of pure comfort and warmth that has grown to become my home away from home. I am looking forward to cherishing every single moment of this final year – knowing that this home will always hold a special place in my heart.

What does it mean to be a Buckeye?

Being a Buckeye means showing up with the goal of putting smiles on people's faces. Whether it's through volunteering or just day to day interactions, Buckeyes always strive to leave a positive impact on others. If it wasn't for the outgoing and friendly Buckeyes I met on my campus visit, I wouldn't have decided to come to a school almost 400 miles away from home! Through my time at Ohio State University, I have learned the importance of leaving others with a smile on their face through positivity and being a constant source of enthusiasm.

To me, being a Buckeye means unparalleled opportunity. But it also means cheering uncontrollably at football games, eating late night Buckeye Donuts, and constantly discovering more about your university and its community. Being a Buckeye challenges you to find dreams worth chasing.

What does it mean to be a Buckeye?

Of course, being a Buckeye is screaming as we beat TTUN every year. Of course, being a Buckeye is singing Carmen with your closest friends. But, being a Buckeye is more than that. Being a Buckeye is the constant yearning for success with everyone in scarlet and gray rooting for you. Being a Buckeye is the warmth received from passing friendly faces on cold, long walks to class. Being a Buckeye is finding a crew that you know has your back for life. My Buckeye spirit is defined by the taking advantage of every opportunity, and making the most of the time we have here. Go Bucks!

Being a Buckeye to me means belonging to a community of scarlet and gray, passion and dedication, and friendship and family. It means singing Carmen Ohio with the best fans in the land and taking part in timeless tradition passed down from generations. What does it mean to be a Buckeye?

Being a Buckeye means learning at, competing for, and serving with others at The Ohio State University. It means upholding the tradition of excellence that was established by Buckeyes of past, and planting our own seeds to be seen by those of the future. Most importantly, being a Buckeye means belonging to a team united by our differences. Each Buckeye is unique, and our team reaches new heights through diversity and inclusion.
